Comprising 3,500 square feet, this custom home renovation’s most challenging aspect was designing a new floor plan for the ground floor. The owners worked closely with East Bay Development, creating a plan to open up areas covering the kitchen, living and dining areas. It is now a welcoming and open space with a clean, contemporary look. Privacy was an important concern, with area triangle-shaped windows fitted into the gable ends creating a problem. We removed one of them, and a beautiful clean wall is now in its place providing space for a personal art gallery display. This is echoed by a similar space near the house entrance, creating balance and a running artistic theme. To add to the bright, airy lightness of the ambiance, we removed old fashioned, dark, red brick, paneling and added additional windows in the living area. The look is carried through with new white oak flooring. Upstairs, the custom home renovations were equally transforming. The original use of space made the areas very dark, so we let in light though added skylights. A 4x4 skylight in a hallway at the top of the stairs made so much difference that the space became a sitting area. We rearranged existing spaces, turning an old attic space into a new corridor leading to a bedroom and laundry room. The laundry is hidden behind an 8-foot sliding door.In a major bathroom remodel, we took another hallway and created an en-suite for the master bedroom. This incorporated an existing bathroom and used an adjoining bedroom as a walk-in closet. A new covered entry over the front door, custom made with horizontal grain fir, welcomes guests and sets the modern, stylish tone for the updated, contemporary interior
